Final Major Project (Undergrad)
For this project, I have decided to create an EP, but creating a piece where the tracks can be played simultaneously. In addition, having the normal album CD/Digital Purchase as the total 4 tracks, but allowing the consumer to purchase a hardware build where they can play the tracks together in different ways; never will sound the same – allowing a unique consumer experience.
My idea was to create a 4-song EP all having the same duration and key (staying within the limit of 15-minutes minimum). The EP is called, “THE ELEMENTS”; the reasoning behind this is that each track represents an element: In order of Earth, Water, Fire Air. I have chosen to include location recording, gathering sounds of the elements myself and through freesound.org to create a sound design piece for every song.
EP Artwork
The artwork that ties to the digital product, which I have mixed and mastered to MFiT standards. the songs are abstract and are designed heavily using sound design.
Circuit Build
I created a wood frame with an arduino stuck to the bottom and a breadboard. Using resistors which links to the soldered wire with paperclips attached. This then is touching the conductive paint, which creates a proximity sensor. I have coded this in Max/MSP which is connected to the arduino IDE.
Hardware
Each element is in black which is in conductive paint. Once plugged in, as your hand gets closer to the paint the volume can increase and within the software you can change the sensor to effect EQ only, so there is multiple ways to listen to the songs as they do overlap.
